Celebrate Black History Month in Spruce Grove: Candlelight Stories and Cultural Celebration

  • Heavy Metal Place 50 Westwind Drive Spruce Grove, AB, T7X 0B9 Canada (map)

Be part of this Powerful Black History Month Celebration

About this event:

History for African and Caribbean people has been carried through the spoken word, not written on pages. Our stories are passed from generation to generation through rich, interconnected traditions. While storytelling practices differ across regions and nations, shared ways of remembering and teaching follow us wherever we have found ourselves. These stories are shaped by tradition, culture, and community. They are meant to move us, to awaken emotion, to remember, to teach, to heal, and to affirm who we are. Through song, drum, movement, and voice, storytelling connects the past, the present, and the future. It is intentional. It is living. And it belongs to the community, not to one person alone.

This Black History Month, we invite you to experience storytelling as we know it. We honour the history, heritage, and contributions of Black Canadians through powerful performances that speak in our own language of expression:

  • The rhythm of the drums

  • The movement of dance

  • Songs that inspire

  • Poetry that affirms

  • Fashion that tells us who we are

  • And more.

Be inspired by our dynamic keynote speaker and by the voices that continue to shape our past, present, and future.

This is a space to connect, learn, reflect, and celebrate together, while sharing food, culture, and meaningful conversation.
